What is a food co-op?
A food co-op is a discount buying club.
Staples N' Things is a buying club for United Natural Foods, Inc.
We also order from Frontier Natural Products.
How does a co-op work?
A food cooperative is a group of people working together and pooling their orders in order to get our favorite natural foods at the best possible prices. Everyone shares in the work and everyone reaps the rewards.
How often do you order?
Orders are made every four weeks. The deadline is on a Sunday, then the truck delivers the order on the following Wednesday. A complete schedule and the location of each divide can be found on the Deadlines and Divides page.
What happens at a divide?
United Natural Foods calls the coordinator the day before the divide and gives an approximate delivery time. The coordinator then emails the approximate time to all other members. We try to be at the delivery site 15 to 30 minutes in advance, just in case the truck is early. Our group unloads our order from the truck, sorts it, and each person pays the bookkeeper for their order. We then clean up the delivery site and take our groceries home.
